packhedge™: data modelling

PackHedge™ has a sophisticated data model that has been very carefully designed to allow data from many different sources to be effectively stored, managed and used. If you are using one external data source and capturing local data, you may choose to use a non-aggregated database. Alternatively, if you are using multiple data sources you can choose to use an aggregated database which allows data from all the data sources to be stored within a single object. Every element of data is tagged with its source, the date and time of entry and no data element can be removed from the database, this allows complete data source trace-ability. The Data Source Ranking (DSR) allows you to set the priority in which data from different sources is to be used for each object (fund, index, etc…) in the database. PackHedge™ not only allows you to automate the integration of data from various feeds but also traces the external company or internal person that provided every element of information.

Data Source Ranking (DSR)

For example, if we are capturing information directly from a Fund Manager, from Bloomberg, from TASS and from a Named User in your research department, then once you have set the Data source Ranking (DSR) to define the priority in which the data is to be used (say in the afore mentioned sequence), then your analysis will be executed using data from the Fund Manager first, if there is no data for a specific time slot or data field then the Bloomberg data will be used, failing that the TASS data will be used and failing that the Named User data will be used. This allows you to select the data you consider to be the most accurate for each specific analysis.
